For the People

By Trisha Kostelny, Political Outreach Chair

“At every step of the way, I’ve been guided by the words I spoke from the first time I stood in a courtroom: Kamala Harris, For the People.” Kamala Harris, Aug. 19, 2020

Kamala Harris has infused massive energy and excitement into the Democratic campaign for President. Last Tuesday, I attended the rally for her in Milwaukee. I had tears in my eyes and we all cheered for her as she was welcomed to the stage. We get to vote again for the first woman for President.

In the world we live in she clearly has had to overcome a great deal, being a woman and a woman of color. She had to work harder than any of her counterparts to get where she is today. She has fought hard and will now fight hard for us … as we must in turn fight hard for her!  I was stunned by her ability to speak to the extreme contrasts between herself and Donald Trump. It’s clear that her time with the most experienced president in American history has been beneficial. She is confident and strong and makes me feel hopeful about America’s future.

She has helped pass and implement historic legislation and strengthened America’s national security through her visits to more than 20 countries. She has had meetings with over 150 world leaders. She is the country’s leading messenger on reproductive freedoms and will ensure that Trump’s role in overturning Roe is front and center in this election.  She will fight for women’s freedoms. As a former prosecutor and US Senator she is skilled in prosecution and has been taking the fight to Donald Trump for years. He is  clearly frightened of her and deeply worried about her abilities and withdrew from his debate with her.

We’ve had people lined up to get into our office when we arrived this past week. They understand this is a historic election. It’s time to make history. Come be part of a hopeful, “powered-by-the-people” campaign.

Don't get left behind. The Kamala Train is leaving the station! Climb Aboard!

Yes You Can(vass)! Come Learn How Aug. 8

We know, we absolutely know, that canvassing is how we win elections. And we also know that folks who haven't done it before are hesitant to jump in.

Jump in!

We will not let you drown. We will send you out with an experienced canvasser the first couple of times until you realize just how easy -- and effective -- talking to voters is!

But first: Come and learn the basics of canvassing on Thursday, Aug. 8 (and again on Aug. 20 and 27). Canvassing is simply having conversations with voters, listening to and engaging with them. And we have the best trainers around who will not only inform you but help you ease you into the process.

Here, by the way, is an amusing video showing you why it matters and how easy it is.

Say 'Yes' to telling voters to vote 'No!'

There is an important primary coming up on Aug. 13 with two terrible constitutional amendments the GOP is attempting to sneak through during a primary in which there are no challenged races among Democrats. So, it's not only critical we dedicate ourselves to getting out and voting on these two amendments (as well as checking the boxes for even our unopposed Democratic candidates) it's essential we continue telling voters why they too much get out there and vote No as well. We will be canvassing in Grand Chute and Heart of the Valley Saturday through Election Day to Democratic voters who might still not know what these amendments will do or why they need to get out and vote.

Furthermore, the Outagamie Dems are committing to shifts holding up NO signs outside various polling locations on Election Day and we need your help. These are two-hour shifts and could prove pivotal with undecided voters heading into their polls. Each sign contains a pithy rationale for why these amendments are bad.

Early voting continues through this Friday. Check on our home page under Upcoming Events for days and hours in your municipality.

Kamala Watch: Come Ride The Blue Wave of Momentum

If you came to our party office for the June debate, well, um, let's just say here's a chance for a do-over!  And we promise you a much better experience this time! Join us at the Outagamie Democrats office to watch Vice President Harris accept the Democratic Party nomination for president as we continue the momentum that has galvanized the Democratic Party,  independents and Never Trumpers since her elevation as our nominee!

Bring your favorite beverage and, if you are so inclined, bring a snack to share.

We'll also be sharing a short training on REACH so you can share various media with your network during the watch party!

Democrats: Union Proud!

Bring your family and friends and join the Outagamie Democrats on Monday, Sept. 2 for the Menasha Labor Day Parade. Float decorating begins at 9:00 am with step off at 9:25.

Find us at 320 Chute Street, Menasha. You can walk or ride and we will transport you back to the beginning of the parade route at the end.

The Infrastructure Minute: Getting the word out!

Presenting the first in a series of 'Infrastructure Minutes:' The Appleton airport expansion.

Conceived by Jerry Iverson and produced by Lawrence University Dem Megan Eisenstein, the Outagamie Democrats will be creating spots on all the ways the Biden/Harris Infrastructure Act is helping Outagamie County. Please stay tuned for the links to these various videos on our Facebook page and share widely. We need to get the word out!

About those yard signs ...

We obviously cannot wait for the Kamala Harris signs to become available so we can have them popping up like mushrooms overnight! Please check our website for all our signs. For almost all other candidates signs are available. We suggest a minimum $5 donation, with a recommended minimum donation of $25 for the extra large signs that come with stakes and ties. In the meantime, keep hitting that refresh button for those Harris for President signs!
