Take the time you need ... then let's get back to work

By Emily Tseffos, DPOC Chair

We want to start by saying thank you to each and every one of you for your hard work these past few months. Whether you collated literature packs, greeted folks at the office, made calls, wrote postcards, knocked on thousands of doors, brought snacks, shared social media content, or served as a volunteer for those *very* busy weekends of action, our leadership team is grateful for you.

We wanted to quickly send a note because we know that many of us are feeling anxious, angry, sad, defeated... we are all dealing with Tuesday's results in different ways. Please take the time to process this in whatever way you need, and let us know if you need help. We've included some resources at the bottom we hope you'll turn to as needed   .

  • Tuesday led to some great wins in the Fox Valley - Huge congratulations to Rep. Lee Snodgrass on winning her reelection bid in the 52nd assembly district and to Senator-elect Kris Alfheim on securing the 18th senate district! We are thrilled to have two strong and inspiring women representing this area in Madison and look forward to supporting their work. Those new maps? They've helped us move closer to a legislative body in Madison that is actually representative of this state. Democrats have FLIPPED at least 14 seats in the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate - we are hopeful for some actual progress coming from Madison once the legislature convenes for its session in January.

  • We'd also be remiss if we didn't acknowledge the other incredible candidates who were on the ballot this November. The work each did to create inroads in really difficult districts (and the work you did to support them!) was not for nothing. We applaud those leaders and support them in their efforts moving ahead.

  • In the wake of Trump's win, we know you have a lot of questions about what’s going to happen. We want to hold space for you to collectively process and hear from us about what Project 2025 will feel and look like in northeastern Wisconsin, so please consider joining us at our monthly meeting at 7 PM at our office or via Zoom (Register here: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIvf-6uqDwuGNZd7mB4mcaxw4u9pVuag9rh#/registration). \

The Work's Not Done

But mostly: remember we're in this fight together. The hours, days, weeks, months, years of your life you've spent working toward a better tomorrow have been banked. You've held back the bad. You've planted seeds. You've changed minds and hearts and we are so so grateful for you. Don't dismiss the work you've done - the work we've done together.

That work is not over. We are so proud to be in this with you. You're driven by purpose and love for your community ... we don't stop fighting now. We were born to fight, and I truly believe that's why we found each other.

Though in some ways we wish we weren’t facing the prospects of another election right around the corner, in another way it may prove the perfect salve – and re-motivation – for us. The fight to save the liberal majority on the state supreme court begins in January … and fight we must. As Ben Wikler, our party chair, pointed out, the Wisconsin ground game this past election cycle -- and that includes our ground game here in Outagamie County -- was monumental and unprecedented and why Wisconsin, among all the battleground states, did so comparatively well, re-electing Tammy Baldwin and coming within less than a percentage point of winning the state for Kamala Harris.

Let's Nourish Those Seeds We've Planted

That may seem hollow given what we face, but let us assure you, it is not. It is something to be so proud of and something to harness in the fight to elect Justice Susan Crawford to replace retiring Justice Ann Walsh Bradley. It’s a battle we need to win, not just politically,  but emotionally and spiritually as well.  We must show our spirits are not crushed but more determined than ever.

What we've accomplished together cannot be taken away. Those seeds we've planted? Let's help them take root. Those hearts and minds we've changed? We keep showing up to remind them of the importance of the movement we are a part of. Take some time to rest. To breathe. To rage or cry or dissociate for a bit - but always know we are here when you're ready.

We love you and we won't stop fighting for the future our country deserves. The only way out of this wilderness is through it. And the only way through it is together.

Forward together.
